According to MEPS, global stainless crude steel output reached about 24.7 million tons in 2009, which was 4.6 percent lower, compared to 2008.
MEPS predicts that the global stainless steel output will hit 28 million tons in 2010. The EU’s output will be 6.9 million tons, China’s output will be 9.6 million tons, and Russia’s stainless steel output will increase by 73 percent.
The low demand in the US in the first half year of 2009 led to the low output in the following three months. After that, US stainless steel rebounded and the estimated output for 2010 is 2.15 million tons.
Korea’s stainless crude steel output was1.61 million tons in 2009 and will be 1.95 million tons in 2010.
Brazil’s stainless steel output increased in 2009, and production in India remained stable.
China’s stainless steel output is estimated to increase by 7.9 percent in 2010.
